AMTC is run and operated in amiskwaciwâskahikan ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ (Edmonton, AB). We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to create, dream, gather and perform on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting ground and home of the First Nations including both the treat signatories - the Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stony, and Cree-Iroquois – as well as other Indigenous peoples such as the Blackfoot and Metis who occupy this land.

AMTC is part of a rich and beautiful community of artists, technicians, administrators and audiences, each with diverse and unique perspectives that weave together to create Alberta’s remarkable identity. It is our passion, our mission, and our responsibility to embrace and represent the vast spectrum of Alberta’s diversity in all that we do.

In 2020, AMTC was invited by the 35//50 Initiative to commit to a set of organizational beliefs and policies, rooted in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices. AMTC accepted this invitation enthusiastically. These commitments will result in 35%+ of staff and contractors who identify as Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour and 50%+ of staff and contractors who identify as female or non-binary by the 2024/2025 theatre season. Reports documenting policy creation and up-to-date statistics around AMTC hiring practices are available below for perusal. At present, we are collecting the data for the 2022/2023 season and will then immediately begin collecting data for the current season.

2022 Year-End Report

To further ratify its commitment to both the 35//50 Initiative and its own mandate, in June 2021, the Board of Directors accepted a document entitled "Company Values," which aims to elaborate on the scope and detail of AMTC's commitment to the community, its audiences, the stability of company operations and to its artistic goals. AMTC cares deeply about its ongoing journey to listen to and represent Alberta’s incredible landscape of human diversity.
